Does House of the Dragon have anything to do with GoT?

House of the Dragon will be released on August 21st. Here comes another epic work of George R. R. Martin, Blood and Fire.

Although I think GoT disappoints the audience in the end, no one could resist an epic masterpiece as gorgeous as it is?

On July 21, HBO releases another trailer for the new drama. It contains two-minutes long effective contents, and it also explains some unresolved doubts in the previous two trailers. Together with the original content of Blood and Fire, I can probably infer what the show is going to talk about.

Firstly, everyone cares that whether this show has anything to do with GoT?

Well, definitely, it has nothing to do with GoT.

In GoT, King Targaryen is killed by Jaime Lannister, and the rule of House Targaryen is overthrown by the army led by Robert Baratheon. There are only two people left in the House Targaryen, the brother and younger sister. Then, the younger sister Daenerys becomes the Mother of Dragons after baby dragons are born. GoT tells the story about the Mother of Dragons returns to King's Landing step by step.

While House of the Dragon tells the story of the two hundred years before GoT, and there is nothing to do with the Mother of Dragons. Of course, the House Baratheon and the House Lannister aren't as prominent as they are in GoT at the time. In this new show, House Targaryen is in the center of power.

Secondly, what period is the story about?

I know, it’s the story of the House Targaryen's conquest of Westeros that you want to know the most. After all, the three of them are the three dragons on the sigil of House Targaryen. They are Aegon, and his two sisters, Visenya and Rhaenys. Surely, we can also call them as Aegon and his two wives. We're all curious about how they built the Targaryen Dynasty, and their incestuous relationship.

Let me tell you clearly, the play doesn't show it at all.

In the cast list, King Viserys Targaryen is at the top of the list. Namely, the story starts with the fifth king of Targaryen, when Aegon and his two sisters/wives are already dead.

Then, what's the story about King Viserys?

There is nothing about him. But after he dies, it is the famous Dance of the Dragons.

The Dance of the Dragons is a civil war of the House Targaryen. It is very bloody, spreading to the Seven Kingdoms. Countless people and dragons die. Judging from the style of GoT, this play will definitely not be less than 5 seasons. Exactly, the Dance of Dragons lasts for nearly three years. It means that during the period, there are many fights between people and people, people and dragons, also dragons and dragons. Those shots must be fantastic, if they could be recreated the way GoT does.

Moreover, the House Targaryen has a custom of incest within the family. To put it bluntly, all other Targaryens can intermarry, except for parents and biological children. There definitely could be 5 seasons, by involving such complex character relationships, love and hatred.

Viserys experiences two marriages. His first wife dies, and the two have only one grown-up daughter, Rhaenyra, the eldest daughter of Viserys. In the second marriage, he has four children. The eldest son is Aegon. Well, do you think that some stories will happen?

Judging from the trailer, Rhaenyra in the House of the Dragon has grown up. But I think, there are many things needed to be clarified in the first season, for the sake of the historical Dance of the Dragons. Rhaenyra and Aegon are indeed at odds, so how the siblings get along before they turn against each other? How do Rhaenyra and Alicent, the second queen, go from friend to foe?

There is a battle scene in the trailer, and that is very important. On the fifth wedding anniversary of King Viserys and his second queen, a grand Tourneys is held in King's Landing. At the Tourneys, Queen Alicent wears a green dress. Rhaenyra wears the traditional red and black dress of the House Targaryen. The blacks and the greens that people always refer actually originate from the Tourneys. Black and green also refer to two opposing parties, respectively.

How do the two parties arrange their own forces to the Seven Kingdoms? What intrigue battles take place? And, what is the ending of the Dance of Dragons? Who is the one finally sitting on the Iron Throne?

I think those are enough for HBO to shoot for a few years. In particular, how to restore the Dragon's war. That will be a major challenge to HBO's financial resources and imaginations.
