Understanding the 6 essential points of "Fantastic Beasts 3"

Many people who watched "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" said that they could not understand.

As a prequel to "Harry Potter", the two series with the same magical worldview do have a deeper connection. If you don't know a lot of the back story, many plots will indeed be incomprehensible

I have summarized 6 knowledge points to facilitate you to make up for the lesson.

01. Ariana's death

Ariana is the sister of Albus Dumbledore. Her background is key to understanding Albus Dumbledore's relationship with Grindelwald.

The Dumbledore family has always had a hidden child which is Albus Dumbledore’s sister Ariana.

When Ariana was 6 years old, she was attacked by three muggle boys when she was doing magic. Since then, she has become extremely mentally unstable and unable to control her magic. Her father cast a spell on the muggle boys in retaliation, and was arrested. He did not explain why, because if the Ministry of Magic had known about Ariana's condition, they would imprison her for life. They will see her as a serious threat to “the International Statute of Secrecy”, To protect her daughter, her mother, Kendra Dumbledore, moved to Godric's Hollow with her three children.

In 1899, at the age of 18, Albus Dumbledore achieved great academic success. After his graduation, when he was ready to travel around the world, an owl brought bad news: Ariana had lost control and killed her mother by mistake. Albus Dumbledore had to break his great future with his own hand to take up the responsibility of taking care of his brother and sister.

Meanwhile, Grindelwald was expelled from the Durmstrang Institute for experimenting with black magic. He met Albus Dumbledore when he went to visit his aunt in Godric's Hollow. Two talented teenagers hit it off and plan to create a greater world.

Albus Dumbledore is obsessed with his relationship with Grindelwald and neglects Ariana, which made his brother Aberforth Dumbledore very dissatisfied. The three finally had a fight, which accidentally resulted the death of Ariana. And Grindelwald escaped.

Since then, Albus Dumbledore has lived a life of regret. Brothers have broken up. His families have been shattered. And friends have turned against each other. This has become a permanent pain in his heart. He hesitated to confront Grindelwald, in addition to the old friendship and remorse for having participated in his plans. The main thing is the fear of knowing the cause of his sister's death: who actually fired that fatal spell back then.

02. International Statute of Secrecy

The "International Statute of Secrecy" is the "International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy", the one decree that Grindelwald most wanted to break.

In the 17th century, the Muggles launched "witch hunts", which caused much fear and panic. As a result, the "International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy" was signed in 1689, implemented in 1692. It became the code of the Ministry of Magic, which is the foundation of power in the wizarding world. Its purpose is to make the entire magical world actively hide itself, control magical animals, and sever ties with Muggle society in order to safeguard the entire magical world.

Grindelwald and the young Albus Dumbledore were bent on overturning the code so that witches can walk between heaven and earth with integrity. But then Albus Dumbledore saw Grindelwald's ambition and disagreed with his practice of race cleansing. The two parted ways.

03. Blood Pact

The blood pact in the movie can be seen as another form of the Unbreakable Vow. The Unbreakable Vow is a magic used to form an oath and those who break it will die. Witches often use it to keep major promises or secrets.

The power of the Blood Pact was shown in the movie. Albus Dumbledore contracted with Grindelwald when he was a teenager. As soon as Albus Dumbledore sprang up to fight against Grindelwald, he would be strangled by the chain, which made him unable to hold his wand and nearly suffocating.

04. Aberforth Dumbledore

Aberforth Dumbledore is the younger brother of Albus Dumbledore, an often overlooked and important character.

He was rude, stubborn, and had a bad temper. His love for his sister was touching, although he resented his brother. Albus Dumbledore was estranged from him, but admired him as a man. What is more important is that he could always tell right from wrong at critical moments.

Aberforth Dumbledore had made key contributions in both the First and Second Witch Wars. He was a member of the Order of the Phoenix in the First one and helped Harry and his friends through the Second one.

05. Obscurus and Obscurial

What is Obscurus?

Young wizards are afraid to use magic after suffering from muggle bullying, resulting in the long-term suppression of magic in the body. Eventually it birthed a parasitic creature known as an Obscurus. The host of Obscurus is Obscurial.

In the film, Credence is a powerful Obscurial. Growing up in a sadistic Muggle family, he accumulated countless hatreds in his heart that enhanced his power as an Obscurial. Grindelwald had witnessed the power of Obscurial – Ariana Dumbledore when he was young. That is why he tried to pull in Credence by all means.

06. The Mystery of Credence Barebone's Life

In this movie, Credence Barebone's birth is finally revealed. He is Aberforth Dumbledore's illegitimate son Aurelius Dumbledore.

Aurelius Dumbledore, still in infancy, was taken by his mother and rode with Leta and Corvus Lestrange Jr. on the same boat. Leta saw Corvus Lestrange Jr. crying and in order to get a moment of peace, she swapped Corvus Lestrange Jr. with Aurelius Dumbledore. Unexpectedly, they then suffered a shipwreck. Corvus Lestrange was buried at sea with Aurelius Dumbledore's mother. Instead, Aurelius Dumbledore was treated as Corvus Lestrange by his servants. They escaped without incident to live in the United States.
