"The Godfather" is a true epic...it's the movie you can't wait to watch and will pray it doesn't end. It leaves you hungry and craving for more, despite being a seventies creation.
"The Godfather" is based on the 1969 novel of the same name by Mario Puzo. It follows the life of Michael Corleone as he transforms into the ruthless Don. Despite more than 40 years since it was released in 1972, The Godfather still maintains great popularity and influence to this day.
The film is one of those that you should pay attention to, and if you haven't seen it yet, see the best of everything that an Oscar-winning film could offer.
Here are five reasons why "The Godfather" is the most iconic film of all time.
5 - Awards and congratulations
The never-ending list of awards is just the beginning of the evidence that The Godfather is the greatest film of all time! The film was nominated for eleven categories and won three Oscars - Best Picture, Best Actor (awarded to Brando) and Best Adapted Screenplay (by Mario Puzo and Ford Coppola). It took home five of the seven Golden Globes and won the Grammy for Best Original Soundtrack, awarded to Nino Rota, who also won BAFTA awards.
4 - The best gangster movie
There have been countless movies about mafia and gangs in Hollywood, but this movie opened the door to all kinds of innovative ideas for the character sketch of a Don or a gang leader.
The Godfather lent a new dimension to gangsters - psychological depth and importance. This film is the pinnacle of artistic expression that can bring almost any mundane or negative character to light, proving that even the darkest of characters can have a unique and important perspective on society and how it should be run.
3 - The Saga

It's a fairly common observation that sequels to many successful films either don't work with the same magic, or fail to entertain audiences, only gaining enough goodwill from the previous installment, or worse yet, the sequels don't work at all! But, The Godfather trilogy - The Godfather (1972), The Godfather Part II (1974) and The Godfather Part III (1990) - managed to not only earn enough to elevate one from rags to riches, but also a niche for itself through all three parts of the film. Each of the three is a masterpiece in itself.
2 - Later adaptations

Not only has this film been immortalized by DVDs that still sell, but it has found more innovative ways to reach your home and stick directly in your memory. The television series, The Godfather Trilogy, has generated about nine and a half hours! In addition to four short films, the most recent development (2006) was The Godfather: The Game, a video game as a treat for fans, thus gaining an even larger group of fans than before and creating a place in the hearts of a younger generation.
1 - Dialogues to enjoy
This movie has even more to offer than already mentioned. The film is a huge shed of excellent dialogues. There are dialogues in the film that created the story. They are still very popular and have been repeated in many other films in homage to The Godfather.
Almost all of these famous dialogues have a taste of satire and irony and help to break the clichéd depiction of the mafia and gangsters. It is a strong departure from the way gangsters behave and are presented speaking famous lines like - "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse."
