A Man Called Otto (A), based on the novel of the same name, is basically a live-action version of Pixar (Up), although it finally rushed to the award season (the director said that it was only completed last week, Tom Hank Stadt watched it for the first time tonight) but it was a big surprise. It feels like the Oscar judges and film critics in the theater are sobbing. But the essence is actually a comedy, and there are constant laughter during the viewing process. So it's really "laughter and tears, deeply touching". Especially if you were moved by the montage of the first ten minutes when watching "Up", this film can be said to extend those ten minutes into a movie. If you don't bring a tissue, you will cry and wet the whole mask like me. 
The old man Otto in this film loves his wife deeply, and after his wife dies, he becomes very stubborn and difficult to deal with. Although he is a very kind person in essence, he began to vent his resentment to the people and things around him, and it was difficult to feel the kindness and warmth of others. But when a Mexican family moved to the opposite side, the kind and enthusiastic hostess of the family slowly influenced him and changed his life.
The touching part is not only the warm interaction between the little people, but also Otto's memories of the past with his wife, which makes people feel the love for his wife. Love and nostalgia, plus the soundtrack in the film is also very sensational, there are a lot of tears, but it is definitely not because of sadness, but because of emotion. 
Half of the film's success comes from the lively and humorous script, and the other half from newcomer Mexican actress Mariana Treviño . Of course, Tom Hanks has outstanding acting skills, but Mariana steals the show very much in the film. The female neighbor who starred in this role has a little bit of persistence and enthusiasm for this stubborn old man. This character is very similar to the little Asian boy in "Up", sincere and kind, and has a natural sense of humor. Otto is clearly an ISTJ type of character, serious and rule-abiding, with a strong dislike for rule-breakers. Once his wife walked into his boring life and brought light and hope to his life, but after she finally left, she also took away the color in his life. He had already despaired and chose to commit suicide, but because of the arrival of Marianne and other neighbors, he found the hope of life again, and realized the sincere mutual help and friendship between people.
The story is actually similar to another "Whale" (Whale) released this year. loneliness, pain and self-abandonment. But the protagonists also realize with the help of those around them that they are not alone. Otto's neighbor rescued a homeless cat from freezing to death, and he did the same, and he was helping others.Getting along and helping each other made him realize the meaning of life again.
This is the type of movie "Coda" last year, every character is likable, including a stray cat. Only this time, with Hanks and Sony assisting, it is likely to gain some ground in awards season.
