The First Film | The Coen brothers started with a film noir- and Frances McDormand was already there

Today in our series of articles about the great contemporary film directors and their early works, we have the Coen brothers.

Like Tarantino, brothers Joel Coen e Ethan Coen maintain the same authorial traits since their first film, the great Blood Simple (1984): the mixture of violence with humor, the subversion of genre cinema, working together (the two are so inseparable that they will preside over the jury of the 2015 Cannes festival together) and the presence of Frances McDormand in the cast. Incidentally, Joel Coen's wife had her first performance precisely in her husband's debut film. Good partnership…

Blood Simple plays with noir suspense and the detective genre, through the story of a bar owner who hires a detective to find out if he is being betrayed by his wife. The dark and violent scene in the hotel room has become a classic.
