Shazam! Fury of the Gods is recently released, we can enjoy it on stream. The movie is a regular popcorn movie about a superheroes beating villains, the story explores family, teenage love relationship, and relationship in foster homes, as well as teenage growth and personal responsibility. The movie also incorporates elements of ancient Greek mythology, it is presented in the genre of comedy + action, and the profound meaning is easily revealed. It's fun, it makes people happy.
In this breakdown review series, I will thoroughly analyze the easter eggs and hidden details of the movie:
1 Shazam 2 belongs to DCU
The opening DC logo animation of Shazam 2 is the same with previous DC movies. Although this movie is the first one after James Gunn and Peter Safran became co-CEOs of DC studios, the production of the movie was completed before, so it is of course attributed to DCU. Therefore, the teaser eggs that appear in the movie may not be supplemented in the future DCU works.
2 Peacemaker actor cameo?
Rizwan Manji, who played the narrator in the museum, played a member of the cleaner Jamil in the DC series Peacemaker. He also discussed with Peacemaker whether Aquaman had grass carp. Since he was killed by daughters of Atlas in Shazam 2, this is obviously two different roles but with one actor.
3 Daughters of Atlas
The villains of this movie, the daughters of Atlas, are the original characters of the movie. In Greek mythology, Atlas is the Titans that lift up the sky. In the mythology, Titans and New Gods are two relatives from the same branch. Myth has it that in the initial chaos of the world, the first God was born, that is, Gaia, the goddess of the earth, and Uranus, the god of the sky, was born from Gaia's fingertips. The two gods mated and gave birth to six male Titans and six female Titans, Cyclops, Centimani and so on.
Cronus, the youngest of twelve Titans, led Titans and Giants to overthrow the rule of Uranus, ruled during the mythological Golden Age, married his sister Rhea, and gave birth to a new descendant including Zeus. And Cronus' brother, Iapetus, who is also a Titan, gave birth to the third generation of Titans, namely Atlas. From that, we can see that Atlas and Zeus, and Poseidon, Ares are siblings.
In DCU setting, Wonder Woman is the daughter of Zeus, so strictly speaking, the identities of the three villains should be Diana's older sisters. However, in Disney’s new Snow White (2024), Gal Gadot plays the stepmother of Rachel Zegler (Snow White), which is really messed up.
4 The source of Shazam's power
The reason why the daughters of Atlas seek revenge on Shazam is because in the story setting, the wizard association stole all the divine powers of the gods, and Shazam represents 6 kinds of divine powers, the initial letters of these six divine powers form the origin of the name of SHAZAM. These six divine powers are:
SHAZAM
S: Represents the wisdom of Solomon. According to mythology, when Solomon just became king, he had a dream. In the dream, God asked him what gift he wanted. Solomon replied that he wanted the wisdom of governing the country, so God gave him extraordinary wisdom. And this ability allows Shazam to have a huge amount of knowledge, photographic memory, understand any text, and hypnosis, etc., but the wisdom ability is not reflected in comics or movies, so we can see the joke about “Shazam left the wisdom behind the door”.
SHAZAM
H: It represents the power of Hercules. Hercules is the God of Hercules in Greek mythology. He has passed the famous twelve trials. This blessing can give Shazam strength no less than that of Superman, so fans often kidding about Shazam has a chance to beat Superman down as long as Shazam's IQ can be improved, because of the advantage of being able to use magic.

A: It represents the endurance of Atlas, which is why the three daughters in the film said that Shazam has the power of Atlas. In the myth, the Titans failed to resist Zeus, and Atlas was punished by Zeus to support the sky forever, so his endurance provided Shazam with strength that he doesn't need to eat, sleep or breathe.

Z: Represents the ability of Zeus. In the mythology, Zeus is the king of the gods and the god of the sky. He controls massive magic and the power of thunder. This allows Shazam to summon lightning and use magic, although the magic power is not reflected in any way in the movie.

M: It represents the speed of Mercury. Mercury is Hermes in Greek mythology and the messenger of the gods, which endows Shazam with a speed comparable to that of Superman. However, in the confession of Shazam at the beginning of the movie, it seems that his speed is weaker than Superman and The Flash.
5 The Flash, Batman and Aquaman
When Shazam consulted in the pediatric hospital, he mentioned that he was not as fast as The Flash, and he was not as cool as Aquaman and Batman. Obviously, he wanted to imply that Shazam was still in the world view of the DCU.
6 Annabelle
In the corner of the psychologist 's office, Annabelle's doll appeared. Director David F. Sandberg directed the movie Annabelle: Creation (2017) before joining DC. Like James Wan, this is also a kind of self-tribute.
7. Starro
On the wall of the psychologist's office, there are many patterns, including a starfish placed next to S, implying that it is Starro, the villain of The Suicide Squad (2021).
8 Freddy Freeman's superhero name
In the movie, Freedy calls himself Captain Everypower, but in the comics, Freddy's official hero name is Captain Marvel Jr. or Shazam Jr.
9 Superman and Wonder Woman
