Although “Ghosted ” is very popular on streaming platforms, I wouldn't have watched it if it didn't feature the beautiful Anna and Captain America.
The movie's story is simple and cliché. Good-hearted Cole (played by Chris Evans) falls in love with the enigmatic Sadie (played by Ana de Armas), only to discover that she is a secret agent. Before their second date, Cole is forced to embark on an international adventure to save the world.
After lowering my expectations, I watched this movie during my work breaks leaning in chair and it just turned out ok. It was a bit cliché, but not too bad. At least the plot development and scenes transitions were smooth, allowing me to watch the entire movie with interest. There were some completely uninteresting parts, but not too many.
Ghosted is a light-hearted movie that's perfect for when you're feeling tired because it doesn't require any mental effort. It features funny jokes, attractive actors and actresses, intense gunfights, evil villains, and many thrilling explosion scenes. Yes, it's a typical popcorn movie.
The movie's hallmark is its predictability, whether it's considered plagiarism or homage. I saw elements of at least eight classic films in it, and I'll list them one by one.
The Good Parts
In "Ghosted," the characters are clearly modeled after Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's characters in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." Although it differs from "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" in the first half, when Cole starts to showcase his wrestling skills, joins the CIA, and carry out on duties, the equally skilled couple bears a striking resemblance to "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."
In Dario Argento's famous horror film "Phenomena," the innate fear of insects is taken to the extreme. Similarly, in "Ghosted," when Cole is interrogated by his enemies, they torture him with terrifying insects. This is an effective approach because it doesn't have to present excessively bloody scenes, which makes the movie accessible to a wider audience while reserving intense fear that goes beyond physical pain.
3.The Rock
In the first half of "Ghosted," when Cole is not yet combat-ready, The main function of this role is to be funny. In contrast, his girlfriend, Sadie, assumes the function of fighting. This dynamic is reminiscent of "The Rock," a classic action movie from 1995 in which Sean Connery was responsible for the action while Nicolas Cage was responsible for the humor. Their pairing was well received and pairings as such are also popular.
In "Ghosted," there is a scene where Cole and Sadie evade enemy pursuit on a bus in Pakistan. During this scene, Cole displays thrilling dodging and climbing skills on the bus's roof. As the bus speeds along a cliff edge, Cole almost falls off when the bus takes a sharp turn. This scene bears a strong resemblance to the popular action game "Uncharted" by Naughty Dog, which engages gamers with its perilous climbing scenes.
The Bad Parts
The following paragraphs discuss various scenes from the Ghosted and how they imitate other classic movies but fail to contribute the story or characters.
Sadie, a proficient CIA agent, is hunted by enemies who hire assassins to kill her, resembling the plot of "The Bourne Identity." However, the imitation falls short as the movie lacks the realistic and intense cinematography and editing of "The Bourne Identity" and turns out to be a weak imitation.
After a fight on a plane, Cole and Sadie parachute onto a deserted island with beautiful scenery and a primitive forest, similar to the film "Cast Away" by Robert Zemeckis. However, like the imitation of "The Bourne Identity," this scene is superficial and doesn't contribute to the story or character development. Additionally, they are rescued by a SEAL team within five minutes of landing, rendering the scene pointless.
When it comes to depicting gangsters and gunfights, Hollywood and Hong Kong movies are both famous for their unique styles, as reflected in works by Hong Kong director Johnnie To such as "The Mission." Ghosted attempts to imitate this gunfight scene in this film before the final battle, but the predictable story renders the imitation meaningless, lacking the suspense of the original
During the final battle in Ghosted, Cole, a skilled wrestler, predictably fights an Asian assassin named The Leopard, who predictably showcases his martial arts skills. The fighting style, dark visuals , and suave suits all evoke recent critically acclaimed film "John Wick 4."
If it was six or seven years ago, I would probably be very interested in this type of movie, but now,I just feel noisy.While the movie incorporates elements of many classic films, it lacks innovation and internal expression. It merely offers a fun and lively but ultimately forgettable viewing experience, leading some critics to label it an "algorithm movie."
