Box Office | "Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé" Dominates U.S. Box Office in Opening Weekend

In a stunning turn of events, "Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé" has made its mark on the U.S. box office, becoming the highest-grossing film during the post-Thanksgiving weekend in the past two decades. The movie raked in an impressive estimated $21 million, including preview screenings through AMC Theatres Distribution.

Surpassing the previous record-holder, Tom Cruise's "The Last Samurai," released in 2003 with an unadjusted opening of $24.3 million, this achievement is particularly noteworthy, considering the typically sluggish post-Thanksgiving period.

"Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé" is currently screening in 2,539 locations across the United States and Canada, boasting a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 100% audience rating, and an A+ on CinemaScore.

Beyoncé herself directed this concert film, following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift's "The Eras Tour," which also debuted at number one under the banner of AMC Theatres Distribution.

In the second place, Lionsgate's young adult adventure prequel, "The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbird & Snakes," held steady with $14.5 million in its third weekend, bringing its total earnings to $121.2 million.

Debuting in the third spot was "Godzilla Minus One," marking Toho International's first domestic release in the U.S., earning an estimated $11 million. The distributor proudly claimed it as the biggest opening for an international film in the U.S. this year, surpassing "Demon Slayer: Kimestsu No Yaiba," which arrived with $10.1 million in March.

The marketing campaign commenced in July with a localized version of the Japanese original teaser and poster, generating more than 3.5 million views. The official trailer, released in September, garnered over 15 million views across social media and YouTube platforms.

Toho International collaborated with the New York-based Japan Society to host a fan-centric event at New York Comic Con, screening the original 1954 Godzilla film in 35mm format and showcasing the new domestic trailer.

The domestic premiere took place at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles on November 10, attended by director Takashi Yamazaki, lead actor Ryunosuke Kamiki, and top Toho executives.

Universal/DreamWorks Animation's "Trolls Band Together" secured the fourth position, adding $7.6 million in its third weekend, resulting in a cumulative gross of $74.8 million.

The competition for fourth place remained intense, as Apple Original Film's "Napoleon" experienced a 66% drop via distributor Sony Pictures but managed to add an estimated $7.1 million from 2,500 venues, accumulating $45.7 million overall.

Disney's animated feature "Wish" faced a 62% decline, earning $7.4 million from 3,900 locations, bringing its two-weekend total to $42 million.

Lionsgate also introduced the dialogue-free action thriller "Silent Night" by John Woo, which debuted in ninth place with $3 million from 1,870 sites. The film is expected to become profitable soon, in line with expectations.

Meanwhile, "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" continued its impressive run, adding an estimated $550,000 from 636 sites in its eighth weekend, potentially elevating its total earnings to $178.8 million.

A24's "Dream Scenario," starring Nicolas Cage, expanded in its fourth weekend, earning $1.7 million for an early cumulative total of $3.5 million, ranking at the twelfth spot.
