REBEL MOON - A LOVE LETTER TO SCI-FI FANTASY

On this epic day at CCXP, we had the privilege of being the first ones to watch Rebel Moon (2023), Zack Snyder’s latest movie, in an otherworldly panel.

The panel began by creating the movie’s atmosphere, with tension and many soldiers walking around. After the opening show, we had the honor of applauding the entrance of director Snyder and the producers, who explained the creative process of the feature alongside the director.

Originally, this sci-fi was imagined as a story within the Star Wars universe but ended up being reworked and approved years later, after its producer, Stone Quarry, signed an agreement with Netflix. Now, divided into two parts, the first movie Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, is one of the biggest bets of the streaming for December besides being the hope of becoming a major franchise.

As we are talking about Zack Snyder’s movie, even though he has freedom within Netflix, he already mentioned he might release the “Director’s Cuts” of Rebel Moon, which are longer and more violent. These cuts don’t have a release date yet.

We had the privilege of watching the movie firsthand, and the first impression is that we have an epic sci-fi movie on Netflix like never before. The similarities to the Star Wars universe or even to Seven Samurai by Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa are visible and none of them spoil the experience because what we have here is a love letter to this genre and an extremely gigantic story, and we want the expansion of this universe.

Rebel Moon was divided into two parts. The first part, called A Child of Fire, will be on Netflix on December 22. The second one, called The Scargiver, is scheduled to premiere on April 19, 2024.
