Box Office | "Challengers" scores Luca Guadagnino's biggest opening in the US

"Challengers" has finally hit US theaters and it's far from disappointing. With $15 million earned in its first weekend in theaters, the film secured the biggest opening for a movie directed by Luca Guadagnino in the country and clinched the top spot.

In the second position, we have the surprise hit "Unsung Hero," a Canadian drama starring names like Lucas Black (Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift) and Candance Cameron Bure (Fuller House). The film raked in $7.7 million in its debut.

The second-highest grossing film of 2024, "Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire," held onto the third spot with $7.2 million, despite suffering a drop of over $2 million compared to the previous week.

On the other hand, "Civil War" plummeted to the fourth spot after scoring A24's best opening. The film starring Wagner Moura pulled in "just" $7 million in its third weekend in theaters.

The fifth spot went to the horror flick "Abigail," which earned $5.2 million at the box office and also slipped in positions compared to the previous week.

It's worth noting the dismal opening of "Boys Kills World." The new film starring Bill Skarsgård only made $1.6 million in its opening weekend, landing in the 10th position at the US box office.
