Stuart is truly a memorable character, redefining friendship and courage with his adorable appearance and remarkable qualities. Stuart | Stuart Little (1999)
Family is about not killing each other; family is about sacrificing oneself even amidst resentment; family is about deep affection and care for one another. With his adorable appearance and extraordinary words, Stuart epitomizes the essence of "family."
Based on the fairy tale Stuart Little by American author E. B. White, this movie premiered on December 5, 1999, in the United States and received multiple nominations at the 72nd Academy Awards in 2000. And over the years, it has continued to captivate audiences with its extraordinary charm. Mr. White is the same author who penned Charlotte's Web (1952) and The Trumpet of the Swan (1970), adapted into movies.
Stuart is an adorable little white mouse. While at the orphanage, he took the time to understand each child's unique qualities. His attentiveness and enthusiasm convinced Mrs. Little and Mr. Little to adopt him, and he began to believe that fairy tales could come true.
From facing the crisis of being swallowed by the fat cat, Snowbell, upon arriving home to dealing with George's rejection, all it took was a goodnight kiss from his mom to make him feel dependent on this family. When faced with gifts from family members who didn't understand him, Stuart was touched and didn't feel neglected. He even thought it was the best moment of his life. Despite following his biological parents back to their dilapidated home at the golf course, Stuart persisted with his kindness. And it was this kindness that moved his fake mother, eventually leading her to reveal the truth to Stuart and save his life.
In the face of Snowbell's rejection, Stuart endeavored to warm him with his actions, ultimately convincing the cat to abandon its previous plan to get rid of him and actively help him escape. This is the charm of Stuart—his kindness, belief, and perseverance. Faced with George's rejection, Stuart avoided conflict and proactively asked George, "If I can't be your brother, can we at least be friends?"
These scenes in the movie highlight many of Stuart's outstanding qualities, making him an admirable and trustworthy friend. Being friends with Stuart would undoubtedly bring many moments filled with laughter and adventure!
Alvin & Simon & Theodore | Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007)
Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are three chipmunks who originally lived together in the forest, singing and storing food happily. They appear to be kind and joyful.
I don't quite understand Dave's initial desire to send them away because if it were me, having three adorable chipmunk friends who try to please me and can talk, I wouldn't want them to leave my side no matter what. Even if they made a mess of the kitchen, I wouldn't mind too much because the joy they bring is incomparable to a clean kitchen.
Alvin, wearing a red cap, is outgoing and mischievous; Simon, in his blue outfit and Lennon-style round glasses, appears quiet yet wise; and Theodore, who claims to be chubby, is one of the cutest characters, greedy yet adorable. I love their expressions when they speak. Theodore is like an innocent child, eager to please yet genuine when looking at Dave and saying, "We're family," with his blinking eyes, asking to sleep with Dave on nights of bad dreams. When you see those innocent eyes, round and innocent, and Theodore's fluffy big tail wagging, requesting to sleep together, it's impossible to refuse. Alvin is like a naughty child; he is not good at expressing himself and constantly causes trouble.
These three chipmunk babies, who are not yet grown up, loving toys, mischievous, immature, but with strong musical talents, are enough to capture hearts. If they were my friends, I would spend every day happily and carefree, immersed in music.
Remy | Ratatouille (2007)
The protagonist of Ratatouille is Remy, a blue French mouse. He is a natural gourmet with a talent for sensing the color, aroma, and taste of food, discerning the ingredients of each seasoning. While his kind is content with eating garbage, Remy is never content with food and spends his days pondering creative cooking methods. He believes that even a mushroom, when prepared well, can be extraordinary. Unfortunately, his talents are limited to identifying rat poison in food until fate takes him from the Paris sewers to Gusteau's restaurant—a once-prominent but now declining five-star French restaurant. The deceased founder of the restaurant, Auguste Gusteau, is Remy's spiritual idol, who once said, "Anyone can cook."
Remy is incredibly expressive, nodding humbly and shrugging French style, his voice brimming with suppressed passion. He's a rare mix of adorable and soulful. When he directs cooking while hiding in Linguini's chef hat, he behaves more like a conductor than a chef. What really impressed me was when he ate grapes. Instead of hurriedly chewing them, he reclined on a comfortable sofa, fashioning a grape into a wine glass. His ecstatic expression revealed a genuine love for food. In this world, you'd happily believe that an adorable little mouse chef friend could prepare a feast for you.
Despereaux | The Tale of Despereaux (2008)
The appearance of an outsider often heralds the beginning of a story. They are usually misunderstood, rejected, face peril, and experience bitterness. But despite all the difficulties, their spirits soar ever higher.
The tiny mouse Despereaux has big dreams far exceeding his size and the imagination of his fellow mice. Seeing Despereaux, one can't help but think of Remy from Ratatouille, both with dreams, but Despereaux's journey seems even more poignant.
Seeing Despereaux defy the rules of his family's tradition moved me deeply. Even though I knew it would happen, it still shook me. Faced with immense pressure, yet still holding on to his initial beliefs and dreams, he is truly noble and honorable. He says, "I am a gentleman full of justice and honor!" Watching his small body navigate those difficult circumstances, I felt like I was thrust into the battlefield, fighting against the rats alongside him. That exhilarating feeling is like a blazing fire, ready to ignite at any moment.
Despereaux and Roscuro, despite being mice of seemingly low status, have dreams and aspirations that make them stand out. Their beliefs are like candles in the dark, igniting their souls. If Despereaux could be my friend, I would be inspired by his unwavering beliefs. He would undoubtedly teach me to bravely face challenges, break down barriers between different social classes, and let sunshine into the hearts of "people" from all walks of life.
In movies, characters like the elf mouse Stuart Little, the romantic mouse Despereaux, or Remy from Ratatouille may seem small in stature and easy to overlook. However, their unique charm and courage set them apart from other animals. If these little mice were to become my friends, they would bring me endless joy and inspiration. Together, we could bravely face challenges and create a brighter future!
