Deadpool & Wolverine: Dynamic Duo

Spoilers

Last week, like many Marvel fans, I went to the premiere of Deadpool 3. Honestly, I had high expectations, which scared me a little. But it didn't disappoint.

Laughter was a given, with Ryan Reynolds it's a guarantee. However, there was a big risk: reviving a character already dead in the Marvel universe and doing it wrong. Moreover, Wolverine is considered a great hero in the cinematic universe with a darker story and a great sacrifice. It was difficult to imagine how Deadpool would bring him into his movie and maintain respect for the character. The union turned out better than good. Wolverine's ironic tone balances out Deadpool's more basic humor, creating an explosive dynamic.

The movie kicks off with a classic character moment. An action-packed, dance-filled intro that only a character like Deadpool could pull off. It's such an entertaining scene that a song, irrelevant for years, has skyrocketed to Spotify's top 10 since last week. Clearly, the Ryan Reynolds effect.
After that, we see a somewhat depressed character resigned to living a normal life until the "call" arrives. Deadpool always dreamed of being an Avenger, helping others, and being recognized for it. However, it never happened for him. Until the Time Variance Authority (an organization we see in the Loki series, which I recommend watching before this movie for more context) calls upon him, offering him the chance to be the hero he always wanted to be. Unfortunately, this promise is a double-edged sword, bringing about devastating consequences for everyone Deadpool knows.

This moment becomes the movie's main turning point: Does he become the hero he always dreamed of, with all the fame and glory he craved, or does he try to save his world knowing he might die trying?
We all know Deadpool's moral compass is a bit shaky, and for a few seconds, he hesitates. However, after escaping the TVA, he seeks out Wolverine, who could be the solution to all his problems.

Unfortunately, as we know, Wolverine is dead, and in the Marvel universe, resurrection is still off the table. However, thanks to the multiverse, there's a chance another Wolverine could be out there, one capable of facing the threat and saving Deadpool's world. And so, Wade embarks on a very "Deadpool" style quest, full of laughs, to find the right Wolverine across different universes. He eventually finds his partner-in-crime: a depressed, drunken Wolverine with no ties to his physical world.

At that moment, the real adventure begins. Seeing these two characters interact is a real treat. It has the perfect balance of action, emotion, laughter, and of course, several jabs at Fox along the way.

Another noteworthy character is the film's not-so-villainous villain. Cassandra Nova possesses psychic powers that allow her to enter the minds of others. Exactly like Charles Xavier, her brother.
You might be wondering why I say she's not so villainous? Because while she's easy to associate with evil and torture, she's also someone who never had a choice in life. The TVA, fearing her powers, locked her away in the "wastebasket" from birth, a space in the multiverse that's nearly impossible to escape, a hell where everything unwanted is sent. Quickly, thanks to her powers, she became the ruler of her "wastebasket," and evil consumed her. But perhaps if she had been raised with Charles, her story would be different...

Another highlight, especially for a Gossip Girl fan like myself, are the nods to Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds' wife. The one and only Serena van der Woodsen appears on screen in a Lady Deadpool suit. In the film, she doesn't take off her mask, leaving her appearance unconfirmed. However, she does do the character's signature walk, further fueling the speculation. And finally, in the credits, her name appears, sending the female audience into a frenzy.

Ultimately, the movie exceeded my expectations, and as I said at the beginning of this review, they were pretty high. I recommend rushing to see it to unwind, laugh, and get swept up in the excitement. Ryan Reynolds has done it again. I eagerly await more adventures in the multiverse with the Wolverine and Deadpool duo.
