Star Wars: Light ashes - When the force is no longer reached

By: Fernando Ramírez Vanegas

Every generation needs its own story. But what if that story doesn't begin with hope, but with a great void? In a galaxy that has already forgotten the brilliance of the Jedi and the shadows of the Dark Side, Ashes of the Light proposes a bold narrative. A rebirth without glory, where the Force is no longer a mystical power, but an unhealed wound. This is a story about what could have been after the story we already know as canon. About what remains when heroes disappear, and the dust of past wars turns to ash. Since those intergalactic wars, more than 2000 years have passed since the last time a lightsaber was ignited. The names of Skywalker, Kenobi, Yoda, or Palpatine are just legends and whispers among archaeologists unearthing the ruins of the vanished empire. The Galactic Senate is corrupt, and the galaxy, tired of prophets and saviors, has learned to survive without the Force. However, everything changes on Dahr'Mor, a dead moon in the Jha’leth system, when a wandering young woman named Yuri Jix finds an ancient temple submerged beneath a perpetual sandstorm. In its ruins sleeps an echo... and a warning: the Force has not disappeared. It has been waiting.

The characters of this alternative story are:

Yuri Jix: She is a collector of rare minerals on little-explored planets and moons. This girl feels things that others cannot perceive. She has a highly developed sense of intuition and possesses the ability of remote viewing. Her path is not to seek power or dominate nations or galaxies, but to find balance and sensitivity with her environment.

Tzhar Nox: A historian with an amputated arm from the ancient Order of the Dawn, a dissident sect that studied the Force without aligning with either the Jedi or the Sith. He believes that Yuri is a bridge that unites broken times. His wisdom is as deep as his pain.

Kels Vursy: A former elite soldier who decided to become a mercenary. He pursues Yuri on assignment, but after chasing her, he begins to question his mission to the point of entering into conflict between obedience and redemption as a warrior.

K27z9: An AI with stealth technology that stores important data of Sith knowledge. Its main ability is to confuse Force users by manifesting as a whisper in the minds of its victims.

The conflict of this story is forgetfulness vs. memory: Can a civilization be reborn without reconciling with its past? In this narrative, the Force is no longer a religion or dogma. It is a dead language that only a few have managed to understand. The plot questions whether the sacred can exist outside of faith.

As for the protagonists, Yuri Jix does not seek to save the universe. She only wants to understand what kind of person she is, but in the process, she awakens a network of ancient temples, sensitive beings, and forgotten consciousnesses that cry out for balance. They are a kind of luminous beings lacking a physical body and invisible, feeding on both the light side of the Force and the dark side. They are parasitic beings capable of occupying the bodies of other people. A whole intergalactic threat capable of incalculable damage. Jix confronts these beings using her ability with remote viewing. This ability was developed by Jix when she was just a child; she had no awareness or prior knowledge of the Force until a Mandalorian mercenary entered the slave house where she lived and, by order of the new chancellor in the Republic, ordered the elimination of all slaves, including their owners, for rebellion against the Republic. Jix was wounded in the shoulder by a blaster shot, which left her bleeding and unconscious on the ground. In the midst of her agony, she awoke and looked toward the table to try to take a communicator that was on it. Jix tried to lift her arm, but each time she did, the bleeding worsened, until, in the last effort before losing consciousness and without realizing it, she attracted the communicator using the Force unconsciously; she awakened remote viewing and, upon seeing ghostly beings of the Force, she fainted.

After that atrocious event, Jix grew up and became a collector of rare minerals to sell them in other interstellar systems. Over time, she arrived at Dahr'Mor, a dead moon in the Jha’leth system, and accidentally activated a system that contained capsules that appeared to be empty but inside had these beings of which Jix had no idea existed. It is here where the conflict begins, as our heroine is attacked by these beings, who try to possess her body but ultimately fail due to her awakening a strange variant of the Force, helping in the process for Jix to fully awaken her ability and be able to see these creatures. Remote viewing has the ability to see beyond the physical world, having direct access to the Force and all its ancestral knowledge.

Tzhar Nox: He is a historian with an amputated arm who belonged to the ancient Order of the Dawn, a dissident sect that studied the Force without aligning with either the Jedi or the Sith. He meets Yuri on one of Jupiter's moons in the solar system. Nox is selling some mineral samples to a merchant. It is here where he meets Yuri, who tells him what happened with these creatures and doesn't know what will happen because she doesn't know what they are. Nox tells her about an ancient prophecy that speaks of beings called Ghost Light, which existed millennia ago. Some researchers say that these beings were the creators of the entire universe and the Force. Nox believes that Yuri is a bridge that unites the physical world with the spiritual world and that she may be the key to helping save the universe in an eventual cataclysm with her remote viewing ability.

Kels Vursy: He was a former elite soldier of the Empire, who decided to become a mercenary after its fall. He pursues Yuri on the orders of the new chancellor Shula Ivok. The chancellor ordered Yuri's elimination for being the only survivor of the massacre at the slave center to which she belonged, as he thought Yuri would speak of this event to other colonies in space and provoke a rebellion among the exiles and anti-Empire separatists. In the middle of his mission, he was about to end Yuri's life. After chases and blaster shots, they were captured by a group of thieves on the planet Su. It was here where Kels began to interact with Yuri, understood her struggle, her sacrifice, and the new threat they were facing. After listening to Yuri, he fell madly in love with her, then became her protector and finally fled the planet Su taking Yuri with him.

K27z9: It is a flying droid with stealth AI that stores important data of Sith knowledge. This droid was in the temple when Yuri released the Ghost Light. Its main ability is to confuse Force users by manifesting as a whisper in the minds of its victims. This is to turn them into containers for the Ghost Light, which began to replicate, controlling species in many systems of outer space, becoming a cosmic threat.

Visually, I imagine this story with a visual aesthetic like that of Andor and the emotional rawness of Children of Men, with a slight philosophical tone. The planets become time machines that hold the remains of ruined cities submerged in deserts of broken crystals and fossilized ships inside moons. I see the music represented by ancestral chants and silences.

¿Why does this story matter?

My creation Ashes of the Light does not seek to repeat the formula. It wants to transcend it and show a disenchanted world, where great ideals have been replaced by apathy. This story is for those who feel broken but still hold hope that something good will happen. If Star Wars began with hope, Ashes of the Light is its mature echo. It is a response to the times we live in: uncertain, fractured, but full of possibilities. Because the Force does not need temples, orders, or wars. It only needs someone to listen.

And in the far reaches of the galaxy, a girl without faith has just opened her eyes.

Friends, now that you know the story. I will share with you a part of the script I wrote that I hope you all enjoy. This is the third version of the story that I have written, it varies in some things, but it is practically the same story. I hope you enjoy it.

STAR WARS: ASHES OF THE LIGHT

Episode X: When the Force Is No Longer Enough

Written by: Fernando Ramírez Vanegas

1. EXT. DAHR’MOR – MOON SURFACE – DAY

A desert whipped by a sandstorm. A solitary figure crosses the hostile terrain on a rusted speeder: YURI JIX, 23 years old, face covered by protective goggles and a tattered coat. Her expression is hard, empty... but her eyes still search for something.

A floating drone, a buzzing exploration sphere, accompanies her.

YURI (communicator)

Mark this point. The mineral is denser here.

The drone responds with a sharp beep.

Yuri stops the speeder before a cliff. A faint light flickers between the dunes. Something shines under the sand.

2. INT. BURIED CHAMBER – MOMENTS LATER

Yuri descends. Her flashlight reveals walls covered in ancient inscriptions. The place vibrates as soon as she steps in. Sand falls from the ceiling.

In the center: a circular platform with glass capsules, cracked and forgotten.

A voiceless sound fills the air.

VOICE (Subtle, unsettling)

Balance is not stillness. It is... living tension.

Yuri steps back. The ground trembles. A hatch opens. A capsule emerges, broken. Empty.

A flash. Her eyes change color: crimson red. She stands motionless.

YURI'S VISION

A Jedi falls from a shoulder blaster shot. His lightsaber rolls and deactivates.

END OF VISION

Yuri blinks. Blurry vision. Figures of light surround her. Faceless entities attempt to enter her body. Yuri screams, and dark lightning bursts from her hands. The figures vanish.

She drops to her knees. On her shoulder: a blaster wound. She stands. Boards her speeder.

FADE OUT

3. INT. YURI’S SHIP CABIN – NIGHT

Yuri examines her wound. She places her hand over her shoulder. A memory emerges.

FLASHBACK – INT. SLAVE HOUSE – NIGHT (YEARS EARLIER)

Explosions. Screams. A Mandalorian mercenary bursts in firing. Yuri, a 10-year-old girl, runs. A shot hits her left shoulder. Bleeding. She crawls toward a communicator.

With a final breath, she unknowingly uses the Force: the communicator flies into her hand. She faints.

Silhouettes approach her body.

END FLASHBACK

Yuri wakes up sweating. Stares ahead, tense.

4. INT. COUNCIL CHAMBER – REPUBLIC HEADQUARTERS – DAY

NOVOX DUX, dark robe, observes a galactic hologram. Beside him, assistant droid K27Z9, a black sphere with a central red light.

K27Z9

Sir, I detected an electromagnetic disturbance on Jha'leth. I picked up a human... young.

The hologram zooms in. Displays Yuri's face with data.

K27Z9 (cont’d)

Yuri Jix. Former slave from the Sudicht system. Sole survivor of the merchant attack.

NOVOX

A spark in the ash...

K27Z9

Sole survivor of the slave merchant incident.

What are your orders?

NOVOX

Hire Kels. Terminate her.

K27Z9

And the freed Light Ghosts?

NOVOX

Do nothing. Obey. The Empire is law.

The camera pulls back, showing tall lit buildings and flying ships.

5. INT. MERCENARY CITY-SHIP – DAY

A floating hangar full of scavengers and killers. KELS VURSY, masked, receives a transmission with Yuri’s image.

VOICE (V.O.)

The target is a scavenger. She must not escape.

Kels adjusts his blaster. Nods.

6. INT. UNDERGROUND TEMPLE – LATER

Yuri returns. A vision connects her to distant temples.

TZHAR NOX, an old sage with a robotic arm, appears.

TZHAR

The echoes hear you.

YURI

Who are you?

TZHAR

The past... still breathing in you.

Yuri dodges him. He grabs her arm. She breaks free.

YURI

Don’t touch me!

TZHAR

There was a time when the Force flowed. Warriors with lightsabers… and conflict. My ancestor was a Padawan. He survived.

Tzhar releases Yuri’s arm.

YURI

What does that have to do with me?

TZHAR

Maybe... everything.

Yuri crosses her arms. Tzhar sits on a stone with inscriptions.

YURI

What are you talking about?

Tzhar walks and sits on a mound of inscribed stone.

TZHAR (slight smile)

Then we have something in common.

YURI

What, you and me saving the galaxy?

TZHAR

I am Tzhar Nox. The last historian of the Force. I know what it was... and what it can be. You carry something inside. Something... asleep.

YURI (softer)

What is the Force?

TZHAR

Life. Balance. Pain. Everything you are... and everything you could become.

YURI

I don’t understand you.

TZHAR

I speak of visible and invisible forces that are part of everything that exists.

The Force is the purest form of our vitality, beyond the physical world. You can do amazing things like enhancing your physical abilities and controlling any physical element.

YURI

Do you know how to use the Force?

TZHAR

I don’t have all the information. I could only recover fragments of it.

On one of the dunes of the planet Tatooine, I found a dying old man. I tried to help him, but he didn’t say much. He only gave me a lightsaber that projected a dark color and several worn Jedi Council books.

Many of the books were completely burned and others had only incomplete information. For a long time, I studied these manuscripts and came across an ancient Sith prophecy which said: even if they ceased to exist in the universe, they would make sure nothing remained alive.

After analyzing several illegible texts, there was another prophecy that spoke of the rebirth of the Force and its new legacy that would rise from the ashes. According to the prophecy, the chosen one would be able to use both the light and dark sides of the Force without being corrupted.

Following the inscribed coordinates, I arrived at this place and finally found you. You must be the chosen one.

YURI

That can’t be.

I don’t even know what the Force is or how to use it.

Yuri remembers the Jedi wounded by a blaster, the lightsaber turning off, and the lightning that emerged from her hands inside the temple. She falls to her knees, hands on her head.

YURI

Then it was real.

Yuri touches the wound on her shoulder.

TZHAR

What is real?
