Back to November and all the movies I watched

This was definitely a month where I was finally free to watch as many movies as I wanted. This sense of freedom resulted in 10 movies: 9 first watches and 1 I saw in the cinema for the very first time. Anyhow, it was thrilling, and I feel ready to share a little about these movies with you. I will provide a general comment on each one and then mention if it’s worth watching or not.

Primal Fear (1996)

This month started with Primal Fear (1996); it couldn’t have started any better. This movie blew my mind; it constantly bombarded me with plot twists and completely changed my opinion of Edward Norton. Now I can say, without any doubt, what a good actor this guy is.

Norton plays two characters: Aaron, a sweet guy with speech difficulties whose naïveté seems almost suspicious, and Roy, Aaron’s alter ego, who slowly reveals his true intentions as the movie progresses. Primal Fear explores a crime allegedly committed by Aaron, who is defended by Attorney Martin Vail, played by Richard Gere.

Verdict: This movie is a must-watch if you are into legal dramas and curious to know who really committed the crime.

Bugonia (2025)

Bugonia (2025) was next in my watchlist. As a Yorgos Lanthimos follower, I was curious to see where he was leading. I couldn’t have been more disappointed when leaving the cinema, totally baffled negatively. The way Yorgos pretentiously botched this film is a case study.

It’s a movie with a weird premise, I won’t lie. Somehow, I believed it was possible to make it work with a good script. How mistaken I was! This movie seriously sucked. With an impossibly stoned plot that leads nowhere, dialogues so over-explanatory, and flat acting, there was not a single moment I could rescue besides the black-and-white flashbacks.

Verdict: If you watch it out of curiosity, it might lead you to overanalyze what is already very clear. This critical and pretentious Yorgos era is a pass for me.

Frankenstein (2025)

Frankenstein (2025) has a complete review in case you want to check it out.

Back to the Future (1985)

After a couple of disappointments, I just wanted to lie down and watch a good movie—no more pretentious crap. Luckily, Back to the Future (1985) came and saved the day. I know what you’re thinking: “How can you talk about cinema and still hadn’t watched it?” It’s a question I still try to answer, but I finally can say what a gem this film is.

Not a classic for no reason, Back to the Future has a compelling story with great characters that grow on you and allow you to root for them. Marty McFly is a perfectly written character, one who grows and learns as the movie progresses. The soundtrack, the dialogue, the visual effects, and the cartoonish but still great acting—it all contributes to making this film an absolute classic.

Verdict: Absolute must-watch.

Predator: Badlands (2025)

Predator: Badlands (2025) was also reviewed and analyzed here. Go and check it out.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)

Why do I always go back to the bad movies? I guess it’s an unexplainable curiosity. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) is the most disrespectful film ever made by Marvel. As a Marvel fan, I decided to watch it after finishing Loki season 2, which was awesome, by the way.

It was an utter insult to fans and to Kang’s character. I get it, they were looking for a way to get rid of Jonathan Majors, but this is possibly the worst Marvel film I’ve watched.

Verdict: Not recommendable, not necessary to understand the movies to come. It’s just a burden on the path. Get out of here, Ant-Man, I gotta move to the next movie.

Desperado (1995)

Desperado (1995) is possibly the weirdest but still funniest cinematic experience I’ve had. Seeing both Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in their prime, together, starring in the cringiest yet epic moments in Robert Rodriguez’s filmography is just a work of art.

Thank you, Robert. You saved me from Ant-Man. I had a lot of fun watching Antonio Banderas dodging bullets like Superman and carrying the most badass guitar case ever.

Verdict: Absolutely recommended for a Sunday afternoon when you just want to have fun, see an authentically entertaining action movie, and witness the beginning of the “walk away from an explosion in the coolest way” type of scenes.

Now You See Me 3: Now You See Me: Now You Don’t (2025)

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t (2025): I really wish I hadn’t seen it, because it was just the most forgettable movie ever. I watched it a week ago, and I’ve forgotten most of the plot, but what I haven’t forgotten is the shittiest plot twist ever and the worst acting I’ve seen from Rosamund Pike—just pitiful.

If you have seen the two previous films, this may actually be pretty enjoyable because of the nostalgia factor. However, taking this movie alone, it just lacks a good storyline. We don’t really know what we’re doing: are we reuniting the horsemen? Are we exposing an evil businesswoman? Are we contemplating Dave Franco doing pull-ups? We don’t really know.

Verdict: If you want to watch a couple of cool tricks, why not watch it, but trust me, if you’re looking for a truly astounding magician’s movie, check out The Prestige (2006) instead.

As Good as It Gets (1997)

Finally, after quite a long month, I wanted to slow down and enjoy one of those dramedies that I love. I gave Jack Nicholson a chance, and thank God I did. As Good as It Gets (1997) captivated me, made me laugh, cry, and stress out—all in one sitting. Isn’t that what cinema is about? I guess we’ve forgotten it a bit.

This film follows the story of Melvin Udall, a writer with OCD who will be in the top 5 most annoying characters ever. But, to balance it all, we also have Helen Hunt and Greg Kinnear playing Carol and Simon, the ones who might change Melvin’s life for good. A quite simple plot, but outstanding performances that will move you.

Verdict: A must-watch.

What a month I had! I didn’t dive deep into rewatches such as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which I got to watch in the cinema. We all know and love Harry Potter, and I’ll probably dedicate a complete post to all the movies.

Now, tell me what you watched this month, your outtakes, and those films you’d blindly recommend!
