Yours In Scandal, Lady Whistledown

Dearest Gentle Reader,

As yet another season waltzes in with its diamond-encrusted heel and rosy-lipped smiles, a question hovers heavily amidst the glamour of high society: will the lingering jewelled emerald courtship of the last season of Bridgerton continue to disenchant us? Or, perhaps, it is time to dust off our chagrin and start anew.

It can be spoken with great certainty that the spectacle of our previous debutante whirlwind romance was nothing short of a debacle. From the most egregious carriage contretempts to the wildly anticlimactic conversations that could both abase and lull our lovely listeners to sleep, last season's ball held an amorous congress that felt, at best, half-formed.

Nonetheless, the upper echelon of London tips its nose in the direction of our newest budding scandal of the highest affair. Or, rather, one that brews below stairs.

A fleeting brush or a heaven-made match in the making? This debutante season weathers in the notoriously rakish Benedict Bridgerton, and rumour has it that a mysterious maiden has caught his eye. Whether or not our new Prince Charming will defy expectation in all matters of the heart or bring his family to shame rests alone in the hands of time.

Meanwhile, it seems as though our fresh verdant newlyweds have become keen on frenzied carriage-ride romps through London. However, let us not forget the squibbling story that was presented to us behind the very same shuddering doors. An afternoonified appearance does little to rectify a dissatisfactory romance, and our viewership is famished with the mere breadcrumbs of the last garden festivities.

Scene Breakdown: Polin's Carriage Scene in Bridgerton Season 3 - Lady Geeks Media

Well-bred traveller, Mr. Colin Bridgerton, bade his time before jumping back into society, but the air of melancholia remained unforgotten by his loyal audience. Surely a trip overseas couldn't entirely erase the beguiling Ms. Marina Crane from his bewitched heart? Yet, as quick as a flame to the wick, young Bridgerton returned with the harum-scarum countenance of a philanderer. Even gracious Penelope Featherington posed no reprieve for the haughty Bridgerton son. A shame, indeed, for a salubrious romance dissoluted into an incorrigible affair. If only our sharp-tongued Emerald jewel could have presented a more salacious stand-off before bending to yet another overweening man.

Yet, do not despair, young reader. More has come.

Behold, a story mighty and delicious. Let us discuss, now, the matter of our silver-spotted vixen. It is to be said that our not-so-mysterious Cinderella has a secret of her own. As dawn intervenes the spell of night, our raven-haired maid must conceal her modest upbringing and bury away unseemly desires. What might seem like a trite narrative overrun with a platitude of mundane sentiments, in actuality, plays out as redemption for our beloved show.

However, as with all favourable winds comes a certain bitter taste, and this season is no different. It is rather uncouth to speak upon matters taking place behind drawn curtains, but a general murmur arises about the gait of our budding courtship. Will a poor damsel fall against her better judgment at the prestigious cottage of her libertine saviour? A mere whisper transcends to a burning kiss. Yet, reader, the whirlwind magic bristling between two desiring souls does not feel hurried at all. One may say that Sophie Baek promises a fairytale affair that thaws even the coldest of hearts.

Still, it is hard to tell which direction the wind will blow. Between me and you, kindest reader, the kite string remains unsteady and taut. Let us hope the stitch carries us through the season.

As for the matter between Our Majesty and her lady-in-waiting, a wound threatens to split open. Will old friendships survive? Remember, loyal reader, under even the most polished crown lies a pulsing, helpless heart. Perhaps all this story really needs is a reminder of what truly matters.

Yours in waiting,

Lady Whistledown
