I'm a good writer. I'm good at sitting behind a screen, formulating my web of thoughts into a coherent sentence; lather, rinse, repeat. Maybe that sounds like a brag, but you should know that I'm a good writer because I'm bad at talking. I will never be a public speaker, a theatre performer, or a news broadcaster—but I could easily write all of their lines. When I got an opportunity to sit down for a one-on-one conversation with an actress whose work I admire, I accepted instantly, forgetting ju

If you Google "greatest filmmakers of all time," chances are you won't have to look for long before you see Ridley Scott's name. He is one of the highest-grossing filmmakers in history, has been nominated for multiple Oscars... Oh, and he's a Knight. Yet, I can't remember the last time I went to the theatre to see a Ridley Scott picture and actually enjoyed myself. More often than not, I leave pissed off. Scott hasn't made any movies of note since The Martian in 2015, and he hasn't made anything
Lucas.: A lot of fair points here. You're wrong about American Gangster, but thats ok. I actually am not a big fan of his "classics" like Gladiator 1 or Blade Runner -- however Thelma is goated. As for his work in the past few years... it leaves a lot to be desired. Someone needed to call him out
Burning bad films so you don’t have to.
I’ve gotta admit, I kinda see Michelle Yeoh through my childhood goggles. She was the special one for me among all characters in Hong Kong movies. The first time I probably saw her was in The Heroic Trio (1993). Her standing there with Anita Mui and Maggie Cheung – so cool, tough-looking and impressive. Such capable fighters, totally different from the usual damsels in distress on screen. There was a real power there. I had mixed feelings seeing her win the Best Actress Oscar for Everything Ever
Lucas Friesen: I'm happy for her, and I also now want to watch all these early works you mention -- ive seen so few!
Today marks the tragic loss of one of the last great American artists, David Lynch. His impact on the culture, cinema, and creative innovation will be eternally unmoved. He's best known for his visionary work as the director of Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, and the television series Twin Peaks. His signature surrealist style even coined the term "Lynchian." Though the majority of his work dates back more than 20 years, he has an ever-growing cult-like fanbase and is revered by his film industry
Danny Varekai: Jenn, your tribute to David Lynch beautifully encapsulates his profound impact on cinema and culture.

Hello innies and outies! My name is Seb. To paraphrase The Simpsons, I have not lead an interesting life, but I have seen a lot of movies. So to celebrate the end of Severance’s second season, I thought I’d give a rundown of my favourite movies featuring the show’s cast. I picked out 20 cast members, and I ran down the list in alphabetical order so all the main characters wouldn’t be at the top. That way, you’ll be forced to read the whole thing. Haha got you. Sadly, I have not seen moves for ev
Lucas Friesen: Some great recommendations in here! Walken's performance in Catch Me is often overlooked by Hands and DiCaprio, but he's amazing in that film
