Between dog and wolf
77 min | Documentary
This is an anthropological film about animals. People are obsessed with animals, especially their pets. We speak to them ... and think they understand... but do we really understand them? We tend to anthropomorphize them, turning them into surrogate children, even lovers. Why can we not even see them as the animals they are? Is there something natural or wild about them that we don't want to see? Is that a dog ... or something still a bit wolf-like, living with us in our homes? This unconventional and observational documentary, with only natural sound and no interviews, spends over a year in the mountains of Sardinia with a pack of sheep dogs and one year with feral dogs on the streets of Bucharest Romania. These two very different but complimentary locations take an unsentimental and raw look at the animal that we humans are closest to. Through this look at the wild side of dogs, we can learn to better understand, and appreciate, that animal closest to us, as an animal, and not just as some reflection of ourselves.
