From the DVD box: The minute she sets eyes on it, Molly Pargeter knows that the Tuscan Villa she has found to lease is perfect for her family's summer holiday. Mother (Lily), son (Malín) and stepfather, and a poor relation between the latter two. Lily always refused to tell who was Malín's real father. But Malín gradually uncovered the secret. But the husband did not even attend the wedding ceremony and feast. After this insult Lily refused to sleep with him. Then he sent her in a concentration camp. She witnessed a prisoner being tortured to death. Later she was confined to a mental hospital. But she made it clear to a young doctor that she would do anything for him if he helped her out. He accepted the deal. But Lily's freedom might not have lasted long if she had posed as the respectable married woman she was. Though the price of concealing it was also heavy. If she took a real job her identity would be disclosed. She could only take poorly paid homework. She had to be glad that any man would accept her. And she could never tell the truth to her son.

A married couple with two children living in the suburbs of Buenos Aires have economical troubles. The father returns to his rural birthplace, where he finds that his father and brother are out of work, so he decides to the city.

In 1988 then 20-year old Kirsi Marie Liimatainen enrolls into Jugendhochschule "Wilhelm Pieck" in Bogensee, German Democratic Republic to study Marxism-Leninism. During her year there she befriends with the fellow students around the world, some of which use combat names to hide their true identity as in their home countries at the time socialists/communists were persecuted. This class eventually happens to be the last at that school as GDR ceases to exist due to German unification in 1989. 24 years later she tracks some of her former school fellows to learn what has happened to these comrades since they left Bodensee.

The feelings of a young lady for a Pontian Greek, whom his fellow countrymen call "the disgrace of Pontus", is obvious to everyone. Kostikas, however, doesn't notice her feelings because his mind is elsewhere. He is trying to become the president of the football team of New Pontus, "Astrapi (Lightning)" in order to take the place of Giorikas, who happens to be in love with the lady in question. She, however, is only interested in Kostikas. Finally, Kostikas not only succeeds in becoming the president of "Astrapi" but also in being elected as the president of the community of New Pontus, and ,therefore, he can now allow himself to deal with matters of the heart as well.
