Cry of the Sky is loosely about events that led to the collapse of the first Kurdish revolution of 1961 and the chaotic recovery of the resistance movement during the second half of the 1970s. In the year 1977, Major league Baseball has officially inaugurated the free agent market. A baseball player named Reggie Jackson came to New York to sign a contract with the ball club called the "Yankees". But, what Jackson does not know that he will soon bring controversy to the club, by saying that he's the "Straw that stirs the drink", causing his fellow teammates especially, Thurman Munson to not like him. Plus, manager Billy Martin and owner George M. Steinbrenner III also have their own private arguments about Jackson and the team. Meanwhile, other things are happening in New York as a killer using a .44 magnum and calling himself as "The Son Of Sam" is lurking around the city, and the infamous blackout.

As a child, Kyoko learned Latin dance from Jose, a Cuban-American serviceman stationed in Japan. Years later, Kyoko travels to New York to see Jose again. After much searching, she finds Jose, only to discover that he is dying of A.I.D.S. and no longer remembers much of his past, including the time he and Kyoko spent together. His last wish is to return to Miami to be with his family, and so Kyoko agrees to drive him, hoping that somewhere along the way, he will remember her.

Stammheim Prison in Stuttgart, West Germany, as the five defendants--Andreas Baader, Ulrike Meinhof Gudrun Ensslin, Jan-Carl Raspe, and Holger Meins--are brought before the judge and accused of the murder of four US servicemen in a terrorist bombing attack. After a hunger strike at the trial's start, Meins dies. The next to die is Meinhof, an apparent suicide. As the trial stretches on, Baader, Ensslin, and Raspe continuously disrupt the proceedings with accusations that they are being purposely undernourished and spied upon.
