Biography

After starting his working life in a Toowoomba fibreglass factory, Ruthenberg joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and completed a trade as an airframe fitter and engineer. After the RAAF, he had a short stint as a youth worker before starting work in the mining, oil and gas industries, working overseas for several years in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Chile, Canada, and the USA. During this period he directed major marketing and sales projects into heavy industry application and developed innovative "go to market" strategies. Ruthenberg later became Executive Officer of the Lutheran Church in Queensland and in July 2009, Executive Office of the Lutheran Church of Australia, overseeing 85 schools, 45 aged care facilities and 60 early learning centres from 2009-2012. Ruthenberg was an LNP candidate for the local Queensland seat of Kallangur in 2009, before winning the seat on Campbell Newman's landslide election victory in 2012.
