Biography

Julie Phillips was born and raised in Studio City, California. She began performing at the tender age of 2 when her father, the iconic film and TV composer, Stu Phillips, was working on a television commercial and needed some young kids in the background. Both Julie and her sister, Toni, also sang background for commercials and movies. Their mother, Dori Ann Gray, was a singer at the Copa Cabana and sang with the likes of Frank Sinatra. Julie continued to act into her teens but stopped when she went to college (USC/UC Santa Cruz). Where she decided she was better suited to be a feminist writer and organic farmer. But when she moved back to LA in 1989 she was once again bitten by the performing bug. Over the next decade Julie studied at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and Groundlings Theater booking television shows (Love Streets, Days of Our Lives) and films (What's Love Got to Do With It) while supplementing her income as an aerobics instructor.
