Zendaya

Biography

"She is an autonomous creative force herself. A cultural icon in the making. A person driven by pure inspiration, empathy, and respect for her craft, who uses authenticity as a new superpower […] Zendaya is the future. And there is nothing more comforting to me. This is only the beginning.” Denis Villeneuve about Zendaya. Zendaya's journey into the spotlight began with her early works into the world of modeling, and later for the hit Disney Channel series “Shake It Up”. But Zendaya wasn't content to be confined to the small screen; she had her sights set on the silver screen. In 2017, Zendaya made her feature film debut in Spider-Man: Homecoming, winning over audiences and critics alike with her portrayal of Michelle Jones, a spin on the iconic partner of the webslinger named Mary Jane. Zendaya wore no makeup to her screen test, a decision that was carried through in production, and added her own embellishments to the role, looking to show her as a dryer, more awkward but more intellectual version of the character. She focused on making Michelle weird and different, making sure that a lot of young people, especially young women, could relate to that. After her success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she went on to star on multiple projects. In the 2017 musical “The Greatest Showman”, she sang alongside fellow Disney Channel star Zac Efron. In 2019 she played her most praised role yet, in the HBO gritty teenage-drama series “Euphoria”, where she played Rue, the self-destructive and self-loathing protagonist. And in the 2020s, she broke into yet another sci-fi saga in the first two installments of the “Dune” series, taking on the part of Chani, Timothée Chalamet’s love interest. Beyond her impressive resume in entertainment, Zendaya is also a passionate advocate for numerous causes, using her platform to raise awareness over social relief organizations, and joining several protests regarding women and african-american issues.

Movie Stars Slayed the MET Gala

Every year, on the first Monday in May, the internet collectively embodies the spirit of Joan Rivers to dissect the best and worst looks from the MET Gala. An event that was originally just a fundraiser for the MET's (Metropolitan Museum of Art) Costume Institute, has become a silent Best Dressed competition, perfect fodder for online trolls who are at home in sweatpants (myself included). The the

DOG MAN (2025): The Family-Friendlies Are Cinema, Too!

Have you ever felt that family-friendly movies are underrated? I've noticed how some people in the film community take a hard look at them. Whether it's to indulge their not-so-fans, or to make fun of how "weird" or "cringe" they can be. Honestly, I state that there's a big stigma around them. Audiences aren't exempt from a more objective point of view. Understanding a feature's purpose is necessa

Movie Aesthetics UI Analysis: From "E.T." to "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse", film history has repeatedly proved that the most "childish" form can carry the most universal emotions, and the craziest imagination is often the closest to reality. Perhaps, the best tribute to "Dogman" is to be like it - with innocent courage, laugh at all arrogant "maturity". In addition, I also like animated films. I have also written several articles about immersing in them for a day. I feel that it will be very interesting and want to play with them. It is very healing and can make me watch it over and over again to find the details. Thank you for giving me deep thinking and recommending me several good animations. You can also read my articles. Thank you!

Why Dune Part Two is The Best Picture of 2024

I thought I wouldn’t have to, but here we go… I will start saying this: I am not a Sci-Fi guy. While I do respect the Star Wars franchise, withstand massive admiration for Lord of The Rings, and certainly appreciative of Harry Potter’s precision; I’ve never been akin to these type of movies (with the exception of The Empire Strikes Back ,1980 and Return of The Jedi, 1983). All of this to say that

Eli Fonseca Films: PREACH! I love this technical breakdown, and you have used vivid language to get your point across. The transition into talking about the sound design was seamless. I would love to have heard you praise the plot more and break down some of those narrative elements. Overall, you have made your stance clear and I can feel the passion you have for this movie. It is no doubt a masterpiece!

A 2024 recap

The year 2024 ended. The award season is now in session, which means there are a lot of interesting releases that are just arriving to theatres (that's the main reason why it's easier to make a recap after one month in 2025). If we go back to 2024 and carefully analyse it, we could ask questions like: Was this a good year? Was there even something interesting? What did we learn? Is this the right

Challengers is Slutty, Intense, Magnificent

Why is tennis so damn sexy? Is it the outfits? Is it the heat from the overbearing sun beating down on sweaty, outstretched bodies? Is it the phallic nature of bouncing balls and swinging racquets? Maybe it comes from the innate tension created from the space between opponents. Or, to quote Zendaya's Tashi Duncan in Challengers, is it because tennis is not a game at all, “it's a relationship"? I w

An intervened realism: Euphoria

Why is Euphoria, which appears to have the same trivial and superficial elements as the rest of the teenage narratives, so different? The answer to this, rather than its aesthetics, its vision, its style, is in what sustains it, its characters and the thesis they represent, which of course, complement its aesthetic style. To begin with, to describe Euphoria we find a stylistic contradiction. On th
