Biography

Having been mostly cast in comedy/ musical roles on stage (Ito the butler in "Mame", Sammy Fong in "Flower Drum Song", Benny in "Rent" and Officer Brophy in "Arsenic & Old Lace" among others), Rudi Yap's first major dramatic role was playing a Korean business owner named Matthew Kai in the Australian psychological thriller "Next Door to the Velinskys" (2010). A Filipino by birth, Rudi had to learn a few lines in Korean and speak with an Asian accent throughout the movie. In 2011, Rudi Yap won the Supporting Actor Award of Merit at Indie Fest for his role in "Next Door to the Velinskys".
