Biography

Born on Saturday, November 8, 1975 in South Africa to an English mother and an Indian father, Antony Hickling moved to England at a young age. The Hickling family settled in Greater Manchester where he later trained as an actor at Manchester University (The Arden School of Theatre). He then moved to London to pursue an acting career. He then continued to study in France, eventually pursuing a career in cinema. His work is strongly influenced by Derek Jarman and Pier Paolo Pasolini. With a string of highly acclaimed movies - Little Gay Boy (2013), One Deep Breath (2014), Where Horses Go to Die (2016), Frig (2018) and Down in Paris (2021) -, Hickling became a renowned Independent film maker in his own right. His works have been screened at LGTBQ film festivals around the globe. In 2015, he co-founded the production company Hickling & Allen films with Matthew Allen.
