Dave Andrews

Dave was born in Greenville, South Carolina in a women's shelter that closed down that same week. Within a week, Dave's family had moved to Madeira Beach, Florida. His father became a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force, so the family moved around a lot. Before his 20th birthday, Dave had lived in five different cities in Florida, as well as in Greenville, South Carolina; Minot, North Dakota; Sembach, Germany; San Antonio, Texas; San Rafael, California; Newport News, Virginia; and Anchorage, Alaska. From Kindergarten through 12th grade, Dave attended 11 different schools. On June 12th, 1986, he was stricken with a rare condition called Miller Fischer Variant Guillian Barre Syndrome. His was one of less than 200 recorded cases worldwide at the time. His nervous system was wiped out and he had to relearn how to do everything over again, from the most basic tasks such as lifting his head from the hospital bed and picking up a spoon to feed himself.
