Dogfight in the Desert: One Jet, Six Cameras, Pure Cinema

Some films challenge us. Some films illuminate universal truths of humanity. Some films provoke deep and profound introspection. Some films just fucking rip. Top Gun: Maverick wasn’t supposed to be this good. It was a sequel nobody asked for, to a Reagan-era Navy-recruitment video best remembered for volleyball and homoerotic undertones buried under a Kenny Loggins synth line and gated drumbeat. I

The Logan Lerm-aissance

The internet has spoken. Logan Lerman is the white boy of the century, but why? White Boy of the Month™ is an inside joke online, but there's more than a little truth to the name. The Hollywood fame machine stops for no man, and it feels like every few weeks, another chiseled, up-and-coming young actor pops up on the scene and becomes the internet's object of desire, only to fade from view just as

marvelousmars: God I haven't thought about him in ages, but that picture of him with curly hair looking back at the camera 😳 And I say that as someone with a strong bias against light eyes lmaoBeyond this awakening something in me, though, I think a strong part of what keeps him so easily likable lies in the idea of keeping him "just the right amount of visible". We've seen what publicity has done to poor Chalamet - if the best thing an actor can be is attractive, the second best is quiet. God forbid their mouth ruins the image hahaha

"The Gorge": Love in a Hopeless Place

I was expecting to catch a typical run-and-gun action flick, and I found The Gorge, which surprised me. We are talking about plenty of adrenaline and jaw-dropping stunts, but at its core, this movie is all about how love can bloom in the unlikeliest places. The highlights are on Drasa, played by the gorgeous Anya Taylor-Joy, a fierce survivor who’s learned to keep her guard up in a brutal world. Y

Can Directors Stop Wasting Anya Taylor-Joy?

I just watched The Gorge (2025), the action-horror-sci-fi-romance-thriller (yes, really) now trending on Apple TV since Valentine’s Day. And I have one burning question: why does Hollywood insist on giving Anya Taylor-Joy visually striking but utterly forgettable roles? In this movie, she plays Drasa, a lethal sniper stationed in a mysterious, no-go valley alongside Miles Teller’s Levi. Their job

The Gorge: Romantic assassins in the middle of a Lovecraftian landscape

One of the most promising releases of the beginning of the year in the streaming world has been the blockbuster film The Gorge, released on February 14 (a very appropriate date) immerses us in a world of conspiracies and apocalyptic threats while surprisingly integrating romance in an organic way, all happening in an impressive and huge space of isolation. The Gorge is a film that shows you a disp

A FUN and EXCITING GENRE-BLENDER: The Gorge

The Gorge is directed by Scott Derrickson and stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy and is currently streaming on Apple TV + and it’s about two highly trained agents who become close after being sent to protect opposite sides of a mysterious gorge, but when an evil arises, they must work together to survive what lies within. Scott Derrickson is one of my favorite directors working today. I love h

THE GORGE is the movie I would have liked to watch on Valentine's Day

Scott Derrickson is a director who, from his beginnings, always tried to elevate himself. Supernatural horror, classic science-fiction, slasher, police investigation, and he even gifted us the privilege of witnessing one of the best superhero movies with the premiere of Doctor Strange in 2016. A pretty decent career that apparently posed a new challenge for him: combining all this and incorporatin

Whiplash: A success story of bullying, or perseverance?

This film shows how being pushed to the edge (and arguably beyond the edge) to achieve your dreams can force you to sacrifice the things around you. The two lead characters foil each other nicely and have perfect chemistry. Andrew Neeman (Miles Teller) is a nineteen-year-old student drummer whose persistent work ethic drives him through the hardship under his conductor, Terrence Fletcher (J.K. Sim
