Biography

Cardinal Theodore McCarrick was born on July 7th, 1930 in New York City. His mother, Margaret, worked for a car factory, but also posed for watercolors sold in China. The fun loving Teddy studied a year in Switzerland, and attended Fhordam University before later studying at St. Josephs Seminary, where he earned his bachelors and masters. He earned a doctorate and second masters from the Catholic University of America. McCarrick went from Assistant Chaplain at the Catholic University to the President of the Catholic University of Puerto Rico. He also served as Domestic prelate of his holiness, and as Secretary of Education and Associate Pastor of the Blessed Sacrament Church. He held a few posts including Secretary to Cardinal Cooke, Bishop of Methuchen, and Arch Bishop of Newark before becoming Arch Bishop of Washington. There he had several political ties, including associations with President George Bush, Senator Ted Kennedy (he also buried the Senator), Congressman Newt Gingrich
