Biography

Kelley Deal and her twin sister, Kim Deal, grew up in Dayton, Ohio. When they were teenagers, they formed their own folk-rock duo, The Breeders, playing at local truck stops. When Kim moved to Boston in 1986 and joined a new band, The Pixies, Kelley moved to Los Angeles, where she was a computer programmer, and rumored to also being a caterer. She was asked to join the new Breeders line-up in 1990 to record an album, but she couldn't get time off work. However, in 1992, she did join The Breeders as third guitarist to record the "Safari" EP. Kelley became lead guitarist in 1993, just in time to record "Last Splash". While the Breeders were doing "Lollapolooza" in 1994, Kelley developed a heroin addiction. She was sent to rehab in 1995. When she was released from rehab in 1996, she put together her own band, The Kelley Deal 6000. The band (often referred to as "TKD6K") was originally called "Solid State", but another band already had rights to it. "TKD6K" released two albums, "Go to the
