Biography

Steven Wiig is a filmmaker, musician and actor best known for his roles in Sean Penn's "Into The Wild", Gus Van Sant's "Milk" and James Franco's childhood-inspired "Yosemite". Steven grew up drawing, making making music and movies in the rural Upper Peninsula of Michigan. While studying art and psychology at Northern Michigan University, he played music, worked as a college radio DJ and was the in-house artist at the local comic book store. After moving to Minnesota and playing music with his band The Martichora, Wiig relocated to Northern California, accepting an offer to work with the heavy metal band Metallica after years of collaborating as drummer in the Metallica side-project Papa Wheelie. Traveling the world for over a decade as writer, photographer, videographer and personal assistant, he first appeared on the big screen as himself in the band's award-winning documentary "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster".
