Hannah Beachler is an American production designer. She grew up in Centerville, Ohio, studied fashion design at the University of Cincinnati, and later film at Wright State University. She began working in independent cinema, where limited budgets required resourceful methods, and developed a lasting collaboration with director Ryan Coogler that extended from small-scale projects to major studio productions. Beachler has managed large art departments with multimillion-dollar budgets and has overseen extensive location research in the United States and abroad. She has also worked in music-related projects. Beachler became the first African-American to receive the Academy Award for Best Production Design and has also earned recognition from the Art Directors Guild.
