Biography

Andrea is a Mexican-Canadian filmmaker who grew up all over North America: from the cosmopolitan city of Toronto where she was born, to Pittsburgh, Pennsylania ( and yes, she is a hardcore Steelers fan) to the tiny mining town of Hannah, Wyoming to the megalopolis Mexico City, where she resides today. Her Mexican father, Arturo, an electrical engineer with a passion for photography, met her Canadian mother, Jan (a nurse with a passion for life) after he and his brother Gustavo journeyed from Mexico to Canada on bicycle in 1956 (an epic feat which would be the subject of Andrea's second film, Ciclo.) Andrea received a Fulbright Scholarship to study a Master's Degree in film at the Universtiy of Southern California. Her debut film, Insigniicant Things, was executively produced by Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan's Labyrinth). Andrea is equally comfortable in the worlds of documentary and fiction and particularly loves blurring the borders between the two.
