Biography

Gogoia Sampaio was born in Rio de Janeiro on the 18th of Janaury, 1968. Daughter of the first black woman film-maker Adelia Sampaio and journalist Pedro Porfirio, Gogoia grew up, in the midst of the Brazilian dictatorship, accompanying her mother to movie sets and theatre backstages - falling in love with every facet of the ludic universe of entertainment and, above all, with the art of costume design. She started working at TV Globo in 1990, where she created countless costumes for soap operas, miniseries, and holiday specials - audiovisual projects with aesthetics very different from one another. Some of the projects she worked on were nominated or won international awards such as the Emmy International Award and the Seoul Drama Awards. She was also nominated and/or won countless Brazilian awards specifically for her costume design creations, and in 2018, was invited to participate in the Cannes Film Festival as a judge in the category of Special Projects for Social Media in GSF Awar
