Biography

Gary Neville rose through the youth ranks of Manchester United and established himself as the club's first-choice right-back under its most successful manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. Neville won many honours with the club, including the treble (Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League) in 1999. He was named Manchester United club captain after Roy Keane left in 2005 and lifted his first trophy as captain of Manchester United by winning the Carling Cup at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. He also played 85 times for England between 1995 and 2007, becoming the country's most capped right-back. He established himself in the England team before his Manchester United contemporaries (and subsequent England regulars) David Beckham and Paul Scholes, and he was the only one to play under Terry Venables, making his England debut in 1995 and playing in every minute of England's first four games at Euro '96 (against Switzerland, Scotland, the Netherlands and Spain).
