Biography

Carole R. Fontaine is the Distinguished Taylor Professor of Biblical Theology and History at Andover Newton Theological School, and a former Henry Luce III Fellow in Theology. She has written six books, over 100 articles, co-edited several volumes of the Feminist Companion to the Bible series, and is the Religion Editor for the World Book Encyclopedia. She has extensive media credits (Biography, Mysteries of the Bible, BBC, and the History Channel). A passionate Human Rights defender, she works as a volunteer for Non-Governmental Organizations that deal with the rights of Muslim women to religious freedom. Her translations and study notes have appeared in the Harper Collins Study Bible, and the New American Bible, revised edition. Her most recent book, With Eyes of Flesh: The Bible, Gender and Human Rights, has been called "a remarkable achievement".
