Biography

Mary Zilba was born in Ohio. Raised in a musical family with six siblings, she was a natural, performing in front of her relatives and schoolmates. She performed as a soloist all through high school and eventually joined a rock band called Junkyard. Ohio offered little opportunity for a young singer to become a huge star, so Mary studied and got her bachelor's degree in journalism at the University of Toledo. However, she still yearned for a venue to perform in, and an audience, and she found this when she entered and was ultimately crowned Miss Ohio and competed in the 1986 Miss America Pageant. She moved to Los Angeles to pursue music full time, working with Grammy winning producer Ian Prince to finally release her self-titled debut album in 1998. In 1999, her follow up album proved to be a great success.
