Biography

Songwriter ("Let There Be Peace on Earth [Let it Begin With Me]"), composer, actress, writer, author and publisher, educated in junior college. She began her career as a radio actress, and in 1934 entered films. With her husband Sy Miller, she co-owned a music publishing company. Joining ASCAP in 1955, her chief musical collaborator was her husband, and her other popular-song compositions include "My Very Good Friend the Sandman", "I Like to Ride on My Bike", "Traffic Light Song", "Listen to the Wind", "Talk It Over With Your Heart", "Once Upon a Summertime", "High Upon a Mountain", "Still Small Voice", "Ask Your Heart to Show the Way", "Keep in Touch With Your Heavenly Father", and "Lord Loves a Laughin' Man". (Her well-known "Let There Be Peace on Earth" was used in the Crusade For Peace Program and also in a USIA film for Japan, and was awarded a George Washington Honor Medal from the Freedoms Foundation.)
