Steve grew up in small town Oregon, where the rain, rural setting, and lack of cable television allowed him to spend considerable time in his own head. With complete and utter ignorance about the entertainment industry (and certainly no idea what an "editor" was) he signed up to attend Emerson College with an eye towards being an actor. A month before classes were to begin however, he realized he in no way had the aptitude for acting, but since he already had his plane ticket and some rad new acid-wash jeans he traipsed off to Boston anyway. He managed to luck into a work study job at the school's video equipment depot, mostly because he attended the interview along with a very attractive friend, and began fiddling around with the cameras and editing equipment where he soon found that long hours in dark rooms suited him.
