Lisandro Alonso

Lisandro Alonso, born in Buenos Aires, is a decorated Argentine film director, screenwriter, and producer. After studying at the Universidad del Cine, he transitioned from assistant director to making his own films. Alonso has directed five films, including La Libertad, Los muertos, Fantasma, Liverpool, and Jauja. He is known for his minimalist style, emotional depth, and unique approach to storytelling, often blurring the lines between fiction and documentary. His films focus on landscapes, using fixed shots and sparse dialogue to evoke emotional responses from the audience. Despite being considered a cult filmmaker, Alonso has expressed a desire for his films to reach wider audiences, although limited budgets have made promotion difficult. Jauja, starring Viggo Mortensen, was a significant milestone in his career, elevating him from a niche filmmaker to one of Argentina's most respected directors.
