Biography

Born in the Saarland, Sabine Urig received her acting education in Wiesbaden and Mainz, and has worked in theaters in Stuttgart, Potsdam, and Berlin. Her repertoire comprises, among others, the roles of Mrs. Peachum in 'The Three Penny Opera', Kalonike in 'Lysistrata, The Odyssee's Penelope' and Faust in 'Faust III'. Sabine started her TV career in 1993 and has since appeared in numerous TV dramas and serials. The movie 'Mein unbekannter Ehemann' (My Unknown Husband), where she performed a main role, was awarded with the main prize at Saarbrücken's Max-Ophüls-Festival. In 1999 she joined comedian Gerd Dudenhöffer's popular sitcom 'Familie Heinz Becker' to play Heinz's wife Hilde, a role she kept in the sitcom's movie offspring 'Tach Herr Doktor'. In 2013 Sabine Urig can be seen in Oskar Roehler's 'Quellen des Lebens', followed in 2014 by 'The Grand Budapest Hotel', directed by Wes Anderson, where she plays alongside Adrien Brody. Sabine Urig lives in Hamburg and Berlin.
