Biography

Steve Toussaint was born on March 22, 1965 in Birmingham, England and is of Barbadian descent. Growing up in South London, his mother worked as a nurse while his father worked for the London public transit system. Toussaint was always interested in theater and acted in a few of his school's productions throughout his childhood. During his time working towards a bachelor's degree in politics at Sussex University, Toussaint was scouted for a role in a play and therefore persuaded to join the drama society. While working his jobs in hospital administration and merchant banking, he began taking drama classes at night. Toussaint made his acting debut in 1990 as Genie in Aladdin at the renowned Churchill Theatre in London. As a member of the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company, he played roles in Macbeth and The Merchant of Venice. He also played Osembenga in Ruined at the Almeida Theatre in London.
