Biography

“I take my work very seriously. When I do something, it has to be right. Everything has to be right. I'm not ambitious with my career, but I'm ambitious with every job.” Before joining the Århus drama school, the Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen trained as a dancer at the prestigious Copenhagen School of Dance. His film career took off with his debut in the Danish film Pusher (1996), by director Nicolas Winding Refn, playing a role for which he became known in his country. From that moment on he began to star in films and television series. He entered American cinema with the James Bond film, Casino Royale (2006) without leaving aside the productions of his own country. He starred in the television series Hannibal (2013 to 2015) playing Hannibal Lecter and the following year he participated in Hollywood blockbusters such as Doctor Strange (2016) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He has shown remarkable versatility, excelling in genres ranging from drama and action to black comedy. Two of his most recognized films were made with director Thomas Vinterberg, The Hunt (2012) nominated at the Oscar Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, and for which he received the award for Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival, and Another Round (2020) for which he received the Silver Shell for Best Actor at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

When life becomes maddeningly polite, think about me - Hannibal TV show end

Hannibal TV series was developed by the talented Bryan Fuller for NBC and first aired in 2013, running for three seasons. It’s an original prequel to the events of Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon, reimagining Hannibal’s life before his imprisonment. “When life becomes maddeningly polite, think about me.” Hannibal did what no other iteration of the famous story had done before. It reinvented the narrative—not just by changing the order of events or plot points, but by giving its characters fu

Hannibal: The Perfect TV Show

I believe some of our stars will always be the same. You entered the foyer of my mind and stumbled down the hall of my beginnings Hannibal was a tv series that premiered from 2013 to 2015 and it‘s one of the boldest, artistic and unique tv series that aired on network television. Was created by Bryan Fuller and was based on the series of books and starred Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishburne and aired on NBC for 3 seasons. A TV series like Hannibal probably deserved his own path int

When we talk about the "Arctic"

If we were in the Arctic and saw a flower growing from a crevice in a rock, how would we react? This idea reminds me of the book of poetry "My Solitude is a Garden" by Adonis, the Syrian poet who has experienced much suffering. Humans are a species that crave communication, and most of us loathe solitude. There have been many successful films that depict stories of loneliness throughout the history of cinema, and I often wonder why this is. The answer could be various: stories about loneliness a

Hannibal Lecter: the killer you can’t help but admire

Some killers terrify us. Others disgust us. But Hannibal Lecter? He fascinates us. He is on a whole different level: smart, classy, and somehow weirdly charming. Unlike most fictional murderers who rely on brute force or blind rage, Hannibal is cool, calculated, and always in control. He is the kind of character that lingers in your mind long after the movie ends, making you question why you’re so drawn to him despite knowing how horrifying he really is. From his first appearance in The Silence

Hannibal Lecter: the killer you can’t help but admire

You think 'the monster was right in becoming a monster' and that's the ultimate horror...

Act 1 - the setup: The Silence of the Lambs (1991) The whole movie can be interpreted as "the inciting incident." You see a rather charismatic Dr. Lecter (and after his first scene, you are probably already hooked). You are presented with a bit of his story, of who he is and what he is capable ofwho he is and what he is capable of—and you want more of him, just as he might want more of you. 😈 Act 2 - the confrontation: Manhunter (1986), Hannibal (2001), Red Dragon (2002), and Hannibal (2013-15)

The Hunt: A Bone-chilling Movie

This Danish film is as cold as the winter in Northern Europe. It mercilessly carves deep into human nature and social morality, leaving you shivering. Watching "The Hunt" is not a pleasant experience, it brews an atmosphere of near-despair. While the saying goes that "the tale of the tiger can be believed if told by three people," this film is more than just that. The children in the movie are set between angels and demons, making this tale of the tiger even more profound and chilling. The prote

Another Round: Pain and Pleasure of Existentialism

This is an era marked by chaos and absurdity, where our spirits endure continuous pain capable of overwhelming countless ordinary individuals. Yet, the expression of this pain is deeply connected to existential philosophy. The film features an interview with the Danish philosopher Kierkegaard, who, as mentioned, is a key figure in the early development of existential philosophy. The title of "Drunk" reminds me of Nietzsche's Dionysian Spirit, and this movie is an example of existential philosoph
