Biography

"What interested Lumière was the extraordinary in the ordinary" - Jean Luc Godard Born in Besançon, France, in 1862, he was one of the pioneers in the development of cinema and the main creator of the cinematograph (cinèmatographe), the first device that allowed the recording and projection of films. At a very early age he was already working in his father's photographic workshop, and in a short time they managed to have the largest photographic plate factory in Europe. In an attempt to create an improved kinetoscope device, Louis came up with the cinematograph, a wooden box with a lens and 35mm film that, when turned by a crank, took snapshots that could then be projected. The brothers patented their invention in 1895, and Louis, using the talent inherited from his father, made what we know today as the first film in history: Workers leaving the Lumiere factory. It was a record of the workers leaving the factory, and consisted of a fixed and general shot that recorded the daily routine at the end of the working day. That same year, it was projected for the first time at the Grand Café in Paris, giving birth to cinema. After its success, the brothers opened theaters in different places and sent operators to record images around the world, experimenting on more than 1400 films (they lasted less than 1 minute). Louis also invented other devices, such as the Photorama, a device that allowed recording and projecting panoramic photographs. His work transformed the way we experience and understand moving images, and his legacy remains central to the history of cinema.

"Emilia Perez", a film so bizarre and surreal that will make Dali blush, and start an international conflict

What in the actual f*ck is this? This is the surrealest, bizarrest and unvoluntarly funniest (or at least I think so) piece of cinema ever projected on the silver screen. It is sad to think that Louis Lumière and Auguste Lumière (The Lumière Brothers) never knew the full potential of the medium they created. I do not believe anyone did before experiencieng this all-rule-and-good-taste-breaking piece of trash film. After watching this picture I have more questions than answers. Not all my "traini

Animal Representation in Cinema The connection between animals and film can be traced all the way back to some of the oldest stories in cinema: it was a galloping horse that inspired the invention of motion pictures; La Petite fille et son chat (1899) by the Lumière Brothers, one of the earliest films to juxtapose humans and animals in the same frame, remains one of the most beautiful and succinct works in cinematic history. However, more than a century later, with countless images of animals in

In the near future, Sorawood is your cellphone

Many moviegoers have likely encountered those one-minute short videos "produced" by Sora, evoking a reaction akin to the astonished Parisian audience of 1895. Imagine them seated at a café on Boulevard des Capucines, witnessing "The Arrival of a Train," one of the earliest cinematic marvels crafted by the Lumière brothers. Today, a scene depicting a stylish woman strolling down a Tokyo street can be entirely generated by AI. All human need to do is to a prompt sentence such as "a stylish woman w
