Biography

Daphne caught the acting bug when as a little girl she saw Bobby Howes playing Mr Cinders. Living in North London she enrolled at a drama school at the Embassy Theatre at Swiss Cottage in London where doing revues she wrote her own material. During the war she accompanied a friend to an audition for a revue called Tuppence Coloured starring Joyce Grenfell who persuaded her to do a piece herself. She joined radio childrens programme Listen With Mother as a story teller and remained with it for 21 years then joined the tv programme What the Papers Say in 1956 as one of the key voices leaving in 1986 moving to television as Mrs Patterson, the owner of the corner shop in the programme To the Manor Born, She also appeared in various tv and radio series with Les Dawson. She married David in 1951 who died in February 2003 after 52 years of marriage, Has an older daughter, Sophie (Marshall). Last heard of she was living at the actors retirement home Denville Hall in London,
