Biography

"I personally believe that if something isn't challenging there's no point in doing it because you're not going to learn much." Cillian Murphy began his acting career in Cork, Ireland, and rose to fame in 1996 with the stage play "Disco Pigs," and the acclaimed zombie thriller "28 Days Later." His presence in "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" further cemented his reputation as the highest-grossing Irish independent film of its time. For nearly 10 years, Murphy played the stoic and calculating Tommy Shelby in the series "Peaky Blinders," and became a favorite collaborator of acclaimed director Christopher Nolan, as in the Batman trilogy, "Inception," "Dunkirk" and "Oppenheimer," which earned him his first Oscar. The enigmatic Cillian Murphy intentionally shuns the spotlight, preferring to let his work speak for itself. With a sharp wit and sense of humor, he plays his diverse roles like an acting chameleon: from Batman's supervillain Scarecrow, a transgender heroine, a war doctor, a manipulative criminal leader, to the theoretical physicist who created the atomic bomb, Murphy's versatility knows no bounds.
