Gisela Kovach

Gisela was born Gisela Ingrid Wimmer with twin sister Helga Brigitte in war-torn Europe, living under tough Russian communist rule in East Germany. As their father was about to be deported to Siberia for refusing to tattle on his fellow workers, the family escaped to West Germany, where the West Germans were not too eager to welcome "Ost-Deutsche Flüchtlinge" (East German refugees) and life was sparse and difficult, but not deadly. However America welcomed the Wimmer family, and they sailed on an Italian freighter to New York and found a home in Philadelphia. In her twenties, Gisela visited California and the minute she got off the plane and saw the sunshine, the palm trees and that you could make a right turn on a red light, she was hooked.
