Alex Garland is a British writer, screenwriter, director, and producer, known for his contributions to science fiction and thriller cinema. He began his career as a novelist with The Beach (1996), which was adapted into a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, directed by Danny Boyle, with whom he continued collaborating on 28 Days Later (2002) and Sunshine (2007). In 2014, he made his directorial debut with Ex Machina, a thriller about artificial intelligence for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. He later directed Annihilation (2018), the miniseries Devs (2020), Men (2022), and Civil War (2024). Garland is recognized for his visual style, philosophical plots, and exploration of the relationship between humanity and technology.
