Biography

Deborah Smith Ford was born in Sodus, New York as Deborah Jean Smith to Richard Charles Smith, a chemical engineer turned apple farmer in Wolcott, New York. Her father was of English-Dutch descent. Ford's mother is Betty Jane (born Betty Jane Pike) and is of English-Irish-Scottish descent. Ford's interest in acting began in theater in the 1960s. By the late '60s she attended college and worked full-time as a certified chairside dental assistant for Dr. Archie Meekins in Bradenton, Florida. By the mid-70s Ford's acting career was put on hold in order to continue her formal education and begin a family. In 1974 she married Alton Ford, DVM. She and her husband settled in SW Florida owning and operating a veterinary practice, South Trail Animal Hospital. They raised daughters Courtney (Courtney Ford Baldwin) and Leah (Leah Ford Groveman). In 1988 Ford obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
