Nathan Fillion pursued his artistic formation in Edmonton, attending Holy Trinity Catholic High School, then Concordia University College of Alberta and the University of Alberta; he did not complete his degree but engaged in theatre there and early television work. He worked in Canadian theatre, television and in improvisational formats such as Theatresports and Die-Nasty before relocating, first to New York to join a daytime soap role, then to Los Angeles. His mediums include television (serials, sitcoms, dramas), voice acting (animation, video games), live-stage performance, and film. He has repeatedly partnered with creators like Joss Whedon, Alan Tudyk, and more recently with James Gunn. His working methods include switching between lead and ensemble roles, performing live-format audio/visual shows (such as a live-stage show concept based on radio-style segments), and expanding into executive producing while maintaining acting roles.
