Biography

“In a way, all my films are ghost stories”. She studied at the British National Film and Television School, graduating in 1986 with the short film Caprice, which starred a then-unknown Tilda Swinton. After completing her studies, she worked in television for nearly 20 years, directing episodes for a wide range of series and music videos. In the early 2000s, she returned to filmmaking with her feature debut, Unrelated, which was released in 2007. The film marked the beginning of her distinctive style—a sharp exploration of upper-middle-class relationships, fears, failures, and emotional conflicts. Since then, she has continued to release feature films, establishing herself as a unique voice in British cinema over the past two decades, earning numerous nominations and awards along the way.
