Biography

René Hofschneider was born in Detmold and grew up in Berlin with his two brothers. He first got in touch with stage acting at the age of 15. Starting as an extra and bit player he gradually made his way at Berlin's Municipal Theater then headed by Hans Lietzau and Boy Gobert. He was discovered by Hans Neuenfels for the role of Ottokar in his film 'Schroffenstein', an adaptation of a play by Heinrich von Kleist. The film was shot near Salzburg, the same city where René later attended the Mozarteum drama school. He then played on various stages in West Germany before returning to Berlin to join the Grips Theater and tour all over the world with their famed musical 'Linie 1' for five years. René has made numerous appearances in tv features like e.g. 'Scene of the crime', 'Doppelter Einsatz', 'Soko Leipzig', 'Soko Wismar', 'Danni Lowinski', 'Unsere Farm in Irland', 'Wilsberg', 'Der Dicke', and he played lead in one of Germany's first sitcoms, 'Ein Job fürs Leben'.
